Colombia (CO) has specific rules for sending SMS messages that must be followed to ensure proper delivery. Sender IDs can be alphanumeric, but are often changed to short numbers or local long numbers to ensure successful delivery. Numeric sender IDs are not supported unless it is part of a two-way service. Generic sender IDs such as INFO, SMS and NOTICE are not allowed.

As of September 1, 2022, new rules for marketing traffic in Colombia have been introduced by the CRC (Comision de Regulacion de Comunicaciones) to prevent fraud and phishing. It is necessary to separate transactional and promotional traffic using different API keys. Marketing campaigns may only be sent during the following hours: Monday through Friday from 07:00 to 19:00 local Colombian time, and Saturday from 08:00 to 15:00. No marketing traffic may be sent on Sundays and public holidays. The sender must include their name at the beginning or a URL at the end of the message. Pre-registration of content may be required for marketing traffic.

It is important to note that P2P traffic is prohibited, as is content related to politics, religion, unsolicited promotion or gambling. In addition, the general content requirements of our Acceptable Use Policy apply. We strive to keep all information up to date and accurate, but we cannot be held responsible for changes in the rules.
