In Vietnam, specific guidelines apply for sending A2P SMS messages. Alphanumeric sender IDs must be pre-registered as unregistered sender IDs will be overwritten to ensure best possible delivery results. Numeric sender IDs are not supported and generic sender IDs such as INFO, SMS, NOTICE etc. are prohibited.
The content of SMS messages may be altered, which may include removing brand names or changing special characters to bypass filtering and improve delivery rates. For messages containing OTP codes, end users may also receive a voice call delivering the OTP codes instead of an SMS message. It is highly recommended to register both sender ID and content to avoid changes or delivery issues.
A pre-registered transaction route is offered for higher quality delivery of notification and OTP messages. This route allows pre-registration of alphanumeric sender IDs and content. Gambling related brands are not accepted. To comply with the rules of Decree No. 91/2020/ND-CP on combating spam messages, spam emails and spam calls, and to ensure the information security of international A2P SMS services, URLs and domains must be registered with relevant brand names.
According to Circular No. 50/2024/TT-NHNN issued by the State Bank of Vietnam, financial institutions are prohibited from sending SMS or emails to customers that contain links to websites unless explicitly requested by the customer. It is important to be aware that the rules for SMS messages in Vietnam may change and we strive to keep the information updated and correct.
