Notes

Country: Rwanda (RW)

Rwanda is a nation in Africa where there are specific guidelines for sending SMS messages. To ensure proper delivery and compliance with local regulations, there are some important points to be aware of.

Transmitter ID guidelines require that alphanumeric transmitter IDs are case-sensitive and must contain the brand name. It is mandatory to pre-register the transmitter ID for the MTN network. Numeric transmitter IDs are not supported unless offered through a two-way service. In case of numeric transmitter IDs, these will be overwritten to ensure delivery. Generic sender IDs such as INFO, SMS, NOTICE etc. are not allowed. To begin the Sender ID registration process, it is recommended to contact your account manager or support.

When it comes to use cases and content, it is important to obtain consent from users before sending marketing messages. P2P traffic is prohibited, as is content related to politics, religion, unsolicited promotion or gambling. There are no additional content restrictions beyond those stated in our Acceptable Use Policy.

It is important to note that the rules for text messaging in Rwanda can change and we strive to keep the information updated and accurate. For further assistance, please feel free to contact our experts.
