Notes
Malaysia has specific rules and guidelines for sending SMS messages. Sender IDs must be in accordance with local requirements. Alphanumeric sender IDs are not supported and sender IDs will be changed to a random short code or an international long number. Generic sender IDs such as INFO, SMS or NOTICE are not allowed.
For A2P traffic, all messages must include the brand, company name or identity of the sender. Operators may impose fines in addition to standard SMS costs if these requirements are not met. Concatenated messages are supported for all networks except DiGi (50216). There is a split between international and domestic traffic based on brand or company name, so it is important to contact your Account Manager for further information.
Due to complaints about SMS spam and phishing, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ordered all operators to filter messages containing links to specific URLs, requests for personal information, and mobile or landline phone numbers for contact purposes.
Additionally, mobile operators require the content header "RM0.00" to be included in messages sent to Malaysia to inform recipients that they will not be charged for receiving these messages. It is important to ensure that this information is present in all relevant messages.
Please be aware that the rules for text messaging in Malaysia are subject to change and we strive to keep all information up-to-date and accurate.
