Start a Make scenario from an incoming text message
Send a Text Message It works by having Make listen to a webhook address. When SureSMS receives an SMS, it sends the text, sender, recipient, and time to that address. Make was formerly known as Integromat; the rest of this guide uses the name Make.
There is no SureSMS module in Make. Add Webhooks and select Custom webhook.
You need to take care of that first
- A Make account where you can create a scenario.
- A SureSMS account with a phone number that can receive text messages.
- Webhook Guide for Merge Fields and Troubleshooting.
In Make
- Create a scenario.
- Add the module Webhooks.
- Select Custom webhook, and give it a name, such as
Incoming SMS. - Copy the address. You'll need to enter it into SureSMS.
- Click Run once, so the scenario runs before you submit the test.
In SureSMS
- Go to Integrations → Webhooks.
- Click Create a new webhook.
- Select POST on Incoming SMS (Recommended).
- Enter the Make address in URI.
- Select a number or password below All issues.
- Paste this JSON into POST value:
{
"time": "",
"sender": "",
"receiver": "",
"message": ""
}- Click Test.
- Click Gem, when the status is in the 200 series.
Example of a scenario
A simple scenario can create a task with the SMS text as the title and the sender's number in the description. Use your own task module as the next step, and map the fields hour, sender, receiver and message.
How to Test
- Let the scenario play out Run once.
- Click Test in SureSMS.
- In Make, verify that the module displays the four fields.
- Send a real text message to that number.
- Open up Log in SureSMS and click Update.
