Probably the most common use of SMS gateways in Denmark today is sending reminders. You probably know it from your hairdresser, dentist, mechanic, library and many other places.
Typically, the system used by the hairdresser, dentist or library (the source system) is connected to an SMS gateway. When an event occurs in the source system - for example, a book is returned - the source system sends a message to the SMS gateway to send a message. The SMS gateway's responsibility is to ensure the delivery of the message via SMS.
